The Plymouth Merchant Navy Monument Fund target is to raise over £150,000 so as to be in a position to commission, build and erect a monument on Plymouth Hoe that can be dedicated in 2020 as a part of the Plymouth City’s “Mayflower 400” celebrations.

The Fund raising was launched during the 2015 “Seafarers Awareness Week”.

On Seafarers' Awareness Day, June 25th 2015, the South West Company of Mariners presented a cheque to officially start the fund raising for a MN memorial on Plymouth Hoe.

The Plymouth Merchant Navy Monument Committee

As part of the celebration of Seafarers Awareness Week held in Plymouth University on the evening of 25th June 2015,
Vivien Foster, President of The Merchant Navy Association and committee chairman launched the fund raising campaign
in support of establishing a monument on Plymouth Hoe.
In her introduction to the project she drew attention to the committee’s mission statement that says
“Our aim is to commission a monument to be sited on Plymouth Hoe alongside those of the armed forces.
It will be dedicated to all those who serve in, or who have served in, the Merchant Navy or Fishing Fleet
in times of peace and war ensuring the survival of our island nation”.
It is intended that the monument will be in place for the Mayflower 400 commemoration in 2020.
With the assistance of Plymouth City Council a ‘Crowdfunding’ site will be operational in the near future for the receipt of donations.
